Voxiom Game Modes Explained - BR, CTG, Survival & FFA
Every Voxiom.io game mode explained: Battle Royale and its Toxic Fog, the 30-point gem swings of Capture the Gems, open-world Survival, FFA and custom games.
What game modes does Voxiom.io have?
There are four core modes — Battle Royale, Capture the Gems, Survival and Free For All — plus an experimental Custom Game format unlocked at level 60. All of them run on the same procedurally generated voxel maps with four biomes: grassland, desert, snow and ocean. The mode you pick changes what you fight for, but the shovel-to-gun progression stays identical.
The official listing on CrazyGames markets the game around these modes, and the community wiki documents each one separately. Below is what actually matters in each format, based on both sources.
How does Battle Royale work?
Battle Royale drops you from the air onto a large island after a 90-second lobby countdown, and the winner is whoever survives while a wall of Toxic Fog steadily shrinks the playfield. Lobbies are formed in groups of four, and the map includes an out-of-the-way “training island” where you can warm up without pressure.
Three details decide most BR matches:
- Loot order beats aim. You land with a shovel; the first player to craft a ranged weapon owns every encounter until others catch up.
- The fog is a clock, not a wall. Plan your rotation through the centre of the safe zone before the damage starts ticking.
- Height wins final circles. Placing blocks to take the high ground is almost always stronger than pushing flat terrain.
The full map — biomes, generated structures like temples and dungeons, and the training island — is shared with other modes, which is why map knowledge transfers between queues.
What makes Capture the Gems different?
Capture the Gems (CTG) is the structured team mode: ruby team versus sapphire team, fighting over a central obsidian gem tower with ore tunnels on each side of the map. The scoring rules are what make it unique — a kill adds 1 point, while carrying a gem adds 30 points, so one successful gem run outweighs a whole streak of kills.
CTG is also the only mode with a Loadout Station at each spawn base, where you compose any primary-plus-secondary weapon pairing you like. That makes CTG the natural home for testing builds before you read our weapon tier list and pick your best loadout. The mode was added in update v0.1.9.9 and has been the community’s main competitive queue ever since.
When should you play Survival?
Survival is the open-world sandbox: craft, build and mine across the same biome-diverse map without a win condition. The portal description of the game — “craft, build, and survive in a vast open-world map” — refers to this mode, and the wiki treats it as the home of relaxed progression.
Two caveats matter:
- Survival does not award VoxGems, the cosmetic currency. If you are grinding toward skins, competitive modes are the only source (see how to get VoxGems).
- The wiki’s old “Sandbox” page redirects to Survival, so community references to either name describe the same mode.
Is Free For All worth your time?
Free For All is the pure deathmatch option — everyone against everyone, respawns on, no objectives. It is the fastest way to practise gunplay and recoil control without the economic layer, and a good warm-up queue before a CTG session. Because kills are the whole point, FFA also levels your weapon familiarity quickly: you handle more different guns per minute than any other mode.
What are custom games?
Custom Game is the experimental fifth format, added in the v0.8 update (June 2022). Creating your own lobby requires level 60; joining one does not. Hosts get a 1312×128×1312 map with the four biomes, and dungeons spawn below height 40 — which is significant because dungeon loot is the only source of Mythic-rarity weapons. Custom matches expire after ten minutes without players and do not award experience.
Quick mode comparison
| Mode | Team size | Objective | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Battle Royale | Solo (4-player lobbies) | Last player standing | Beginners, all-round play |
| Capture the Gems | Two teams | Gems 30 pts, kills 1 pt | Structured team fights, testing loadouts |
| Survival | Open world | Craft, build, mine | Relaxed progression |
| Free For All | Everyone | Kills | Warm-up, gunplay practice |
| Custom Game | Host-defined | Host rules, dungeons below y=40 | Mythic weapon hunting (level 60 to host) |
If you are choosing a first queue, start with Battle Royale basics, then move into winning Capture the Gems once the gunplay feels natural. For where custom-game dungeons fit into long-term progression, see custom games and dungeons.
